Title: The Role of Plant‐based Diets on Healthy Aging
Abstract: The relationship between nutrition and healthy aging is a subject of increased interest among gerontology researchers, since dietary interventions can prevent, or at least delay, the onset of many age-related chronic conditions. One of the most difficult topics regarding the association between nutrition and longevity is the optimal extent/quantity of human protein intake. Human health and aging procedures are significantly affected by dietary fiber intake. As research for quantifying dietary associations with health has moved from single nutrients or foods to dietary patterns, as a way to represent the totality of people's diet, plant-based diets have been shown promising results in improving all-cause mortality and furthering life expectancy. Most plant-based diets are reported to have mostly beneficial effects on the presence or effective prevention of geriatric syndromes like sarcopenia and frailty.
