Abstract: Bijoy K. Khandheria died on February 13, 2023, at the age of 66 years. Bijoy was the 16th president of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), serving from June 2005 to June 2006. He was a young faculty member in the Mayo Clinic echocardiography laboratory during my cardiology fellowship, and we had the pleasure of interacting over clinical cases, laboratory meetings, and continuing medical education events at a time when our staff and the broader echocardiography community were much smaller than they are today. Excitement over new applications of two-dimensional echocardiography for characterizing disease, color flow and Doppler for evaluating hemodynamics, and transesophageal echocardiography for providing a new window to the heart made echocardiography a phenomenally exhilarating area within cardiology, and Bijoy’s enthusiasm was contagious.
