Abstract: Management of soil organic matter is essential prerequisite for assuring food security through sustainability in crop production. Soil organic matter has the ability to modify soil physical, chemical and biological properties, and thereby soil organic matter can control soil erosion by modifying soil aggregate stability, soil–water condition, soil nutrient availability, etc. Soil organic carbon is the soil health indicator which is attained through judicious application of organic matter and subsequent conversion of those materials into soil organic matter in individual crop fields for targeting sustainability in soil fertility in each crop fields and thus achieving food security.
