Title: Pd–NHC Catalysis in Cross‐Coupling of Amides
Abstract: The advent of palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions has had a large impact on organic synthesis. To this day, the continual advancement of cross-coupling reactions continues to shape the way organic molecules are synthesized. Though much progress has been made in transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling of a variety of functional groups, high stability functional groups such as amides have remained underdeveloped until recently. The reports of Pd(II)–NHC complexes have been a monumental development that allowed for the facile cross-coupling of activated amide functional groups such as twisted amides and electronically destabilized amides. Pd(II)–NHC precatalysts have been found to be highly capable at catalyzing a variety of functional group transformations due to their high reactivity; however this book chapter solely highlights the use of Pd(II)–NHC precatalysts in amide cross-coupling reactions.
