Abstract: Trichuris trichiura (whipworm) is one of the major parasitic infections of humans, along with Ascaris lumbricoides (human roundworm) and the two hookworm species. Infection can have profound effects on the health of children, resulting in delayed physical and cognitive development. It is transmitted feco-orally and thus much of its management depends on good hygiene and sanitation at the individual, family, and community level. In addition, preventive chemotherapy either through schools or in whole communities is important in controlling trichuriasis.
