Symbolic recurrence plots (SRPs) offer a richer representation of recurrences by overcoming the arbitrariness of distance threshold selection in phase space. We introduce transfer entropy on symbolic recurrences as an approach to examine causal interactions between dynamical systems from their time series. The approach combines recurrence plots, information theory, and symbolic dynamics, which empowers researchers to visualize and quantify coupling in dynamic systems effectively. Here, by analyzing the causal relationship of EEG signals in different brain regions of healthy people and epilepsy patients, we attempt to demonstrate the research value of transfer entropy on symbolic recurrences in the field of real-word research.Read More
