Title: Immobilized enzyme reactors for bioremediation
Abstract: Enzymes are widely preferred in different industries as catalysts on the commercial scale. Immobilized enzymes are basically enzymes localized or restricted in a particular enclosed area. These enzymes can not only retain their catalytic activity but can also be used repeatedly. Immobilized enzymes find their application in different industries and are used in various enzyme reactors. Regular enzymes have several drawbacks in the enzyme reactors in the industries and hence the scope of immobilized enzymes is being explored. Enzyme stabilization is extremely important when the reactor operates and unstable enzymes do not allow for the proper reaction operation. Hence, the enzyme immobilization process is carried out as an alternative method. It not only increases productivity but also enzyme stabilization occurs. The recovery of enzymes is also very easy and can be reused continuously. When immobilized enzymes are used the bioreactor design also becomes flexible and several process optimizations can be carried out using immobilized enzymes. Reviews have indicated that immobilized enzymes result in efficient biocatalytic tools formation for the removal of hazardous compounds which can act as a promising option for water purification in the future.
