These new products were the first that could be used in the full spinal canal and the brain’s liquid-filled rooms (myelographic), as well as being much better than older contrast media in the circulatory system (vascular). The success has to be explained in terms of the long-term experience since the 1950s with the old product Isopaque and the input from the international network established. Nyegaard deliberately sought a niche use of the product and succeeded where larger corporations had not thought it possible to go.
