Title: International Perspectives on Diversity in ELT
Abstract: Over the past few years, diversity has emerged as a prominent topic in foreign and/or additional language teaching and learning, due to the increase in international mobility and the emergence of more multicultural language classrooms. Against this backdrop, a diversity-focused approach in language education seeks to empower learners to interact or engage with people from different groups in an appropriate manner (Baker, 2020; Bollas, 2021). The result of a self-initiated synergistic professional development among the three editors, Darío Luis Banegas, Griselda Beacon, and Mercedes Pérez Berbain, this edited book is a timely exploration into the issue of diversity in ELT, particularly in light of the view that conceptualising diversity within the ELT context and incorporating an inclusive, diverse, and equal agenda in ELT courses have not always been successful. By drawing on sociocultural theory and critical pedagogy, this book aims to provide policymakers, teacher educators, and teachers with new lenses to understand, investigate and reflect on diversity in ELT worldwide.
