Title: The Role of Waqf for Preserving the Religious Buildings and the Morphology of the Islamic City
Abstract: The foremost problem in most Islamic cities is in the loss of a lot of religious buildings (protected by the Islamic old system of Waqf) in the Islamic world. This lost comes by different ways and in Waqf buildings, it is happening (in addition to the natural process of decay by weathering) by way of armed conflicts that, in the last twenty years, have damaged the Islamic culture of Waqf building construction. There are many ways of decay, damage and destruction of historic Waqf analyzed in this chapter, through examination of different archives and resources: for example, the bad administration of Waqf's buildings due to the effect of the political and ethnical conflicts. At the end of this chapter, there is a list of inferences and recommendations to take into considerations for the new vision of the actual situation of the Waqf building culture.
