Title: Cost Optimization and Comparison of Rectangular Cross-section Reinforced Concrete Beams Using TS500, Eurocode 2, and ACI 318 Code
Abstract: In this study, Eurocode 2 (design of concrete structures), TS500 (reinforced concrete structures design and construction rules), and ACI 318 (building regulations for reinforced concrete structures) regulations for reinforced concrete rectangular beams were considered with the formulation of the design of metaheuristics using Jaya algorithm. The total cost of material and formwork labor is defined as the objective function, and the beam dimensions are defined as variables. It is aimed to reduce the total cost (concrete, reinforcement, formwork) to a minimum for a reinforced concrete beam with a rectangular section with an optimal design for three separate regulations. Therefore, with the optimal design, the cross-sectional dimensions of the beam should reach the optimum value. In the results of the analysis, it was observed that the beam breadth and height came very close to the Eurocode and TS500 regulations for C25/30 and C30/37 strength concrete, but the ACI 318 regulation came in different sizes. That is why cost differences have been formed. The breadth and height of the beam for C35/45 strength concrete have become the same in three regulations. It has been calculated that Eurocode and TS500 are approximately the same cost in terms of cost, while ACI 318 will be designed at a low cost of approximately 7.5%.
