Title: Food-energy-water nexus and assessment models
Abstract: Food, energy, and water are the three essential commodities for the social and economic well-being and prosperity. The Food-Energy-Water (F-E-W) nexus refers to the complex synergies and trade-offs that exist between water, energy, and food sectors, in pursuit of balanced and sustainable development. In the past few years, a significant amount of works has been done for the quantitative and qualitative assessment of the interlinkages between food energy and water. In this chapter, some of the existing frameworks and models are critically evaluated to understand and identify the key advantages and challenges associated with F-E-W nexus modeling. One of the major challenges associated with the assessment of F-E-W nexus is that, due to extreme complex interactions between food energy and water, it is difficult to quantify them using a single model. In this paper, the major focus is on identifying the limitations from existing models and to propose possible modifications thereby further extend its application for overall sustainable development.
