Abstract: This chapter provides an information on descriptive features, ecology, pathogenesis, immunologic aspects, laboratory diagnosis, and treatment and control of species included in family Yersiniaceae . The species covered are: Yersinia pestis , Yersinia pseudotuberculosis , and Yersinia enterocolitica , and Yersinia ruckeri . The genus Yersinia is included in the family Yersiniaceae, newly formed in 2016 following the division of the order Enterobacteriales into seven families: Enterobacteriaceae, Erwiniaceae, Hafniaceae, Morganellaceae, Pectobacteriaceae, Thorselliaceae, and Yersiniaceae. Yersiniaceae includes 8 genera, 67 species, and 3 subspecies, validly published and correctly named. Yersinia enterocolitica is associated with mesenteric lymphadenitis, terminal ileitis, acute gastroenteritis, and septicemia in domestic animals and primates. Enteric red mouth disease is a hemorrhagic inflammation of the perioral subcutis of freshwater fish, particularly rainbow trout.
