Title: International organizations in biological anthropology
Abstract: There are at least 24 national societies of biological anthropology found worldwide that incorporate the subfields of the discipline. These national societies range from memberships of nearly 2,000 to memberships of fewer than 60. Europe is represented by the largest number of national societies of biological anthropology, but there are many general anthropological societies around the world that include components of biological anthropology as a part of their societies' structures. When specialized societies of biological anthropology (e.g., molecular anthropology, osteology, forensic anthropology, primatology, paleoanthropology) are added to the professional society mix, it is almost certain that there are more than 100 associations worldwide. It is clear that biological anthropology has expanded enormously since the end of World War II and that the science is healthy and moving forward.
