Mature fruit bodies were produced in liquid Brodie medium, but the omission of calcium nitrate blocked normal fruiting. Similar results obtained with calcium chloride indicated that the calcium ion rather than the nitrate ion was required. Concentrations of calcium at 2 × 10-4 M, 2 × 10-3 M, and 2 × 10-2 M were equally effective. Addition of calcium at various times after inoculation, up to 60 days, triggered the production of fruit bodies.Read More
