Abstract: More than 40 years after the Nuremberg International Military Tribunal, a number of ad hoc, temporary courts were created to try those alleged of serious crimes — genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity — committed in several countries: the Former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, East Timor, Sierra Leone, Cambodia and Lebanon. These courts were either international, or mixed national/international bodies. In 1998, a permanent court was created, the International Criminal Court.
