Abstract: Chełmska kapituła katedralna powstała w 1429 r. w ramach utworzonej w drugiej połowie XIV w. katolickiej diecezji chełmskiej.Formalnie zanikła wraz z likwidacją diecezji w 1805 r. i przejęciem dziedzictwa Kościoła chełmskiego przez powołaną wówczas do istnienia diecezję lubelską.W rzeczywistości kapituła funkcjonowała aż do faktycznego włączenia kanoników do lubelskiej kapituły katedralnej w 1807 r.Jednak ze względu na specyfikę dziejów Polski doby rozbiorowej oraz szczególne okoliczności natury lokalnej każą widzieć pewne znamiona jej trwania, pod inna nazwa, aż do czasu przeniesienia biskupiej służby Bożej z Krasnegostawu do Lublina w 1826
