Abstract: Abstract Twin studies that compare monozygotic with dizygotic twin pairs for their level of phenotypic similarity have long provided useful estimates of the relative influences of genetic and environmental factors on phenotypic variability in the population. Variations on the classic twin study, such as twins reared apart, co‐twin control and children‐of‐twins designs, may provide additional clues to the effects of specific environments and of gene‐by‐environment interactions in the expression of certain phenotypes.
