Abstract: The atomic age brought significant changes to states' diplomatic relations and diplomatic conduct. This entry traces the development of atomic or nuclear diplomacy by contextualizing the historical development of nuclear weapons and its affect on states' diplomatic interaction. It then outlines the scope and nature, forms, and elements and utility of nuclear diplomacy. Throughout relevant examples such as the nuclear export regimes and the Treaty on the Non‐proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) are referred to.
