Following successful application of combined heart-lung transplantation, double lung transplant appeared to offer potential advantages but was hampered by the frequent development of donor airway complications. During the past 2 years single lung transplantation has been successfully employed with increasing frequency in the management of nonseptic obstructive lung disease. Although early results are encouraging, long-term follow-up is necessary to determine the ultimate indications for single lung, double lung, and combined heart-lung transplantation in patients with chronic obstructive lung disease.Read More
