Abstract: I am very pleased to announce that the editorial team for the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (JPharmSci®) has decided to dedicate a future issue of the journal to Professor Peter York and to the science that he has loved and fostered throughout his professional career. Professor York is currently an Emeritus Professor of Physical Pharmaceutics at the University of Bradford and the Cofounder, Chairman, and Chief Scientist of CrystecPharma. He is also an Honorary Visiting Professor of the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The honor of a dedicated issue of JPharmSci® is being bestowed on Professor York on account of the tremendous impact that he continues to have on research in the area of pharmaceutical material science, especially linked to aspects of chemical engineering and processing. He has had a particular focus on molecular modeling, solid-state structure, solubility phenomena, particle formation, including novel processes using supercritical phenomena, and drug delivery design. His many significant contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences will be summarized in a commentary to be published in this dedicated issue of JPharmSci®. The Peter York dedicated issue of JPharmSci® will include original scientific articles (research articles, notes, and rapid communications), perspectives, reviews, minireviews, lessons learned, and commentaries that address the major research areas that Professor York has been involved with during his distinguished career. These research areas include:•Pharmaceutical material science including approaches to assess the mechanical properties of solids, and computational methods to predict the properties of active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients.•Powder processing and particle engineering to produce particles optimized for various drug delivery routes including oral and inhaled products.•Innovative manufacturing technologies including supercritical fluid processing, and the application of process analytical technologies to pharmaceutical manufacturing.•Crystallization science, crystal engineering, polymorphism, hydrates, solvates, and phase transformations.•Solubility and bioavailability enhancement.•Artificial intelligence and knowledge management of nonlinear pharmaceutical systems. I am very pleased to announce that Professors Lynne S. Taylor (Purdue University), Jukka Rantanen (University of Copenhagen), Anant Paradkar (University of Bradford), Yoshiaki Kawashima (Aichi Gakuin University), and Jiwen Zhang (Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences) have agreed to be the guest editors for the Peter York dedicated issue of JPharmSci®. The guest editors would welcome proposals for original scientific articles (research articles, notes, and rapid communications), reviews, minireviews, lessons learned, and commentaries in those research areas in the pharmaceutical sciences that Professor York has contributed to throughout his professional career. In addition, they would also welcome the perspectives of pharmaceutical scientists in the form of commentaries about the significance of Professor York’s research based on their personal experiences as scientists working in academia, industry, and government. If you are interested in contributing to this dedicated issue and, thus, honoring Professor York, please contact Professors Lynne S. Taylor ([email protected]) or Jukka Rantanen ([email protected]) for more details. Finally, I anticipate that the Peter York dedicated issue will be published as the January 2017 issue of JPharmSci®.
