Abstract: Abstract Social entrepreneurship as a phenomenon in society and a subject of scholarly research is examined. The critical role of social entrepreneurship in addressing shortcomings both of the private sector and the public sector is highlighted. An attention curve to capture patterns in the attention given to social issues and their solutions, or the market for “good”, is presented. The importance and role of bricolage as a catalyst of social change is explored. Attention is also devoted to the concept of catalytic innovations and their importance is affecting substantive social change. Characteristics of catalytic innovators are identified. A number of priorities are established for research streams in social entrepreneurship.
