This approach involves conceptualizing the individual in terms of an overarching life story, or personal narrative. Narrative theories posit that self-concept is constructed of life stories, and that these stories are complete with characters, plots, and themes. Some theorists propose a process model of self-development in which the act of storytelling is not only an expression of the self, but also sparks the development of new narratives about the self. The Dialogical Self Theory states that one's personal identity can be understood as a construct linking multiple versions of the self that exist throughout time and space in a coherent narrative. Narrative therapy is also discussed in terms of how it takes a narrative approach to the study of the individual and applies it to well-being.Read More
