Abstract:Background: Few studies have observed a variety of urinary cytokine dynamics and markers of neutrophil and/or monocyte activation si multaneously following an endurance exercise.Purpose: We aimed to e...Background: Few studies have observed a variety of urinary cytokine dynamics and markers of neutrophil and/or monocyte activation si multaneously following an endurance exercise.Purpose: We aimed to examine the effects of a 3000-m endurance running on urinary excretion profile of inflammatory substances.Methods: Ten male uni versity students completed a full-speed 3000-m running race.Urinary concentrations of interleukin (IL)-1 beta, IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL 1ra), IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12p40, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha, interferon (IFN)-gamma, monocyte chemotactic protein (MCP)-1, macrophage colony stimulating factor (M-CSF), C5a, my eloperoxidase (MPO), and calprotectin were measured by ELISA be fore and after the 3000-m running race.Results: Urine concentrations of MCP-1, M-CSF, MPO and calprotectin were markedly increased following the 3000-m running race.Conclusion: The 3000-m race might induce inflammation in male runners, and the up-regulation of inflammatory mediators might reflect the relationship with patho genesis such as acute kidney injury and intestinal hyperpermeability.Read More
