Abstract: Histotripsy is a method of ultrasound therapy that uses intense bursts of ultrasound to destroy tissue by cavitation rather than thermal mechanisms. The aim of this study is to develop histotripsy as a noninvasive (potentially office based) therapy for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with equivalent efficacy to transurethral resection of the prostate and a more favorable side effect profile.
