Abstract: We report experimental evidence of a new class of intermittencies found in the oscillations of electrostatic actuators. These intermittencies involve a dynamic system spending irregular time intervals in the vicinity of a ghost orbit before undergoing bursting and landing on a larger attractor. Subsequently, external disturbances re-inject the flow into the vicinity of the ghost orbit. The attractor arresting a switching intermittency of type-I is a stable periodic orbit, whereas the attractor arresting a switching intermittency of type-II is a chaotic attractor.
