Abstract: This chapter focuses on Jewish emigration to Israel from Romania, one of the issues surrounding Ana Pauker's purge. It explains that Romania tolerated, if not facilitated, both legal and illegal emigration up to and throughout 1947. The chapter investigates why a steeled and tested Stalinist Pauker supported mass emigration when it was opposed by the Soviet government. It suggests that Pauker's support for the emigration may be attributed to her personal commitment to Israel's creation.
