Abstract: Para Malasia, 2018 fue un año de cambios dramáticos. El tradicional dominio de Barisan Nasional (BN) de la política malasia se rompió de manera radical en las elecciones generales y estatales del 9 de mayo de 2018, en las que la oposición Pakatan Harapan (PH) logró por primera vez la mayoría en el Parlamento, facilitando el retorno de Mahathir Mohamad al cargo de primer ministro. Tras esta victoria de la coalición PH, Malasia se encuentra en un periodo de transformación tras más de 60 años gobernado por el mismo partido. Esta coalición consiguió dar un giro a estas elecciones, que pueden considerarse las más disputadas de la historia de Malasia, y que han contado con una participación de 76%, a pesar de un proceso electoral plagado de obstáculos.
