Title: Physical Examination: Normal Examination in Adult Acquired and Congenital Heart Disease
Abstract: Master clinicians place physical examination at the heart of diagnosis, prognosis, and continuing management for good reason. After obtaining the available historical information, the savvy clinician observes and interrogates the patient's body for additional clues to refine the differential diagnosis, evaluate effects of therapy, and suggest events that may occur in the future. In this chapter, physical exam findings are discussed along with a few key clinical insights based on those exam findings for the interested reader. The chapter is presented within the framework order of how a clinician may usually encounter the physical exam finding in the course of real-world clinical evaluation: vital signs, observation, auscultation, and palpation.
