Title: Effect of Dietary Factors on Colonisation Resistance and Colonisation
Abstract: In the first part of this review, the role of the different diet components on bacterial populations in the digestive tract is analysed. The second part emphasises the effect on Clostridium difficile. This bacterium produces toxins in digestive tract inducing pseudomembranous colitis. The diet was demonstrated to modify toxin production in vitro and in vivo. The attempts to clarify the mechanisms involved are described.
