Abstract: Children are much more susceptible to injury from blunt abdominal trauma than are adults. Symptoms of renal injury include flank or abdominal pain and guarding, hematuria, and flank mass. An intravenous pyelogram is the first radiologic diagnostic procedure in nearly all cases of renal trauma. Most patients with renal trauma do not require surgical exploration of the injured kidney.
