Abstract: Business operators with focus on creating shareholder value such as private equity firms and activist investors use value creation initiatives as a key tool set of their investment strategy. This chapter provides a framework to structure value creation initiatives across the engagement life cycle of growth initiatives and high-impact situations while providing a quantitative methodology to measure them. Value creation and protection are natural stages of corporate development during the life cycle of a business and can be applied broadly to crisis management, restructuring, and growth as a management philosophy. High-impact situations are defined by events that fundamentally impact the value of a business. The chapter focuses on the post-deal environment but the same principles apply for a growth initiatives. Value optimisation can be pursued across three categories: commercial operational, which includes technology; and financial initiatives. The value creation plan targets performance improvement as core of the value realisation which is reflected in the blueprint.
