It illustrates positioning of the animal and briefly describes the procedure. The patient is placed in lateral recumbency with the upper and lower lips clipped, prepped, and draped in. The lateral cervical area can be draped in as well to allow for access to the mandibular lymph node or for an advancement flap for closure of the defect if needed. A sterile mouth gag can be placed on the down side to maintain access to the oral cavity without the need for manual retraction of the mandible. Depending on the size and location of the lesion, the rostral cut can be at the symphysis, caudal to the ipsilateral canine or across the midline. Closure performed by approximating the deeper layers first and performing a simple interrupted or simple continuous closure of the mucosa.Read More
