Abstract: I agree with Dr Setzer's thought that the number of boys with malignant hyperthermia (2/476) was greater than the expected frequency (1/15 000).1 Nonetheless, both boys had received succinylcholine and halothane and had the classical symptoms of malignant hyperthermia (tachycardia, hyperthermia, combined metabolic and respiratory acidosis, elevated creatine phosphokinase levels, and myoglobinuria) and responded to dantrolene therapy. I believe the diagnosis of malignant hyperthermia is accurate. The dorsal penile nerve block appears to be a safe and effective method of anesthesia among neonates.
