Abstract:From the colonial period to the monopolist stage of the capital the Eastern Amazon was marked by successive looting.The accelerated advance of capitalist relations to the Amazon region since the secon...From the colonial period to the monopolist stage of the capital the Eastern Amazon was marked by successive looting.The accelerated advance of capitalist relations to the Amazon region since the second half of the twentieth century has expressed the voracity of financial capital and the subservience of the State in the unrestricted appropriation of natural wealth, in the violent dispossession of lands, and in the imposition of precarious working relations.The aim of this research is to highlight the social impacts and contradictions of the process of territorialization of Vale S/A in Canaã dos Carajás, municipality located in the southeast of Pará state.It is observed that the implementation of mineral extraction and beneficiation big projects in the municipality promoted the socioeconomic disruption of the countryside and the city.The discourse of territorial development sought to ensure the subordination of the region to the accumulation process and expanded reproduction of capital.In this sense, investigating the contradictions of Vale's territorialization in the imperialist period, a time in history when financial capital and monopolies are primacy, is the key to revealing the geography of an announced plunder in southeastern Pará state.Read More
