This allows their use for collection and storage of solar energy. The chapter first describes solar ponds and their operation. Salt-gradient ponds have been proposed for power production, salt production, and providing thermal energy for buildings. Then, the chapter provides an introduction to analysis of the thermal performance of ponds, and outlines specific aspects of the basic theory of ponds. Finally, a discussion of three applications is presented: solar distillation to produce freshwater, evaporation of salt brines to produce salt, and direct solar drying to remove moisture from solids.Read More
