Abstract: International climate policy on climate change is rooted in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The UNFCCC was agreed upon at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. The convention has now been ratified by 195 countries, including the United States. The convention, the Kyoto Protocol, strategies for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+) are all important elements of international policy on climate change.
