Title: Using of Genetic Algorithms (GAs) to find the optimal location and sizing of static VAR compensator (SVC) to minimize real power loss
Abstract: Abstract— Among the FACTS controllers, Static VAR Compensators (SVC) provide fast acting dynamic reactive compensation for voltage support during contingency events. It also reduces system losses by optimized reactive power control. A multi-objective optimization problems involves a number of objective functions which are to be either minimized or maximized. In this paper, a multi-objective function (two objective functions) is considered in searching for a solution consisting of both the SVC location and size that minimizes the active power loss and the installed reactive power of SVC. Non-dominated Sorted Genetic Algorithm II, or NSGA-II is used for the search of optimal solutions.
