Title: Die Einheit von Material, Konstruktion und Form ist zeitlos
Abstract: Liebe Leserinnen und Leser, ein ereignisreiches Jahr 2021 neigt sich dem Ende zu. Das zweite Jahr im Zeichen der globalen Corona-Krise, in Deutschland ein Jahrhunderthochwasser mitten im Sommer mit vielen Toten und großer Verwüstung und wir Bauingenieur:innen trauern um zwei unserer Vorbilder: Stefan Polónyi und Jörg Schlaich. Zweifellos leben wir in einer Phase des Umbruchs. Die Corona-Pandemie und die Klimaauswirkungen zeigen uns, wie alles global miteinander vernetzt ist und wie schnell sich die sicher geglaubten Errungenschaften der vergangenen Jahrzehnte und die darauf aufbauenden Grundlagen unseres Zusammenlebens ändern können. Welche Erkenntnisse können wir daraus für unser zukünftiges Handeln gewinnen? In Phasen des Umbruchs sind Sicherheit und Orientierung gefragt, Begriffe, die uns als BauingenieurInnen vertraut sind und eine Chance darstellen, unseren Beitrag zu leisten. Das industrielle Zeitalter hat uns zum linearen Produzieren und dem Raubbau an den natürlichen Ressourcen geführt. Auch der Bausektor ist hieran beteiligt. Die Folgen sind Ressourcenverknappungen, Abfallanhäufungen und die globale Erderwärmung. Im Unterschied zu anderen Produktionsbereichen, wo Beschränkungen durchaus eine Möglichkeit zur Gegensteuerung darstellen, wird im Bauwesen der Bedarf an Hoch- und Infrastrukturbauten weltweit in den kommenden Jahrzehnten weiter steigen. Gründe sind die stetig wachsende Weltbevölkerung, der Nachholbedarf von China und den Schwellenländern sowie die Notwendigkeit neuer Bauten für die Energiewende und zum Schutz gegen die Bedrohungen durch den Klimawandel. Die enorme Herausforderung, mehr zu bauen bei gleichzeitig weniger Ressourcenverbrauch und weniger Emissionen, kann nur durch ein kreislaufgerechtes, ressourcenschonendes und klimagerechtes Bauen gelöst werden. Die Bauindustrie ist derzeit aber weder technologisch noch personell darauf vorbereitet, diese Herausforderungen ökonomisch und ökologisch zu bewältigen. Hier sind wir Wissenschaftler:innen gefordert, gemeinsam mit der Bauindustrie neue Technologien bereitzustellen, um der Gesellschaft Sicherheit und Orientierung zumindest für den Bereich des Bauwesens zu geben. Dazu müssen Visionen, Kreativität und Wissen zusammengeführt werden. Die von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft geförderten Verbundvorhaben EXC 2120, SFB 1244, SFB/transregio 277, SFB/transregio 280 und SPP 2187 sowie das Schweizer NCCR digital fabrication und der österreichische SFB F77 haben sich hierzu in dem internationalen „Research Network for Advancing Architecture, Engineering and Construction” (AdvanceAEC) zusammengeschlossen. Die Verbünde eint das Ziel, Architektur, Bauingenieurwesen und Bauwirtschaft durch digitale Technologien und einen interdisziplinären Ansatz in eine nachhaltige und klimaneutrale Zukunft zu führen. Neben aller Notwendigkeit zur technologischen und ökologischen Weiterentwicklung ist Bauen aber immer auch ein Kulturgut. Jörg Schlaich und Stefan Polónyi haben die Ingenieurbaukunst als elementaren Teil der Baukultur verstanden. Ihr Verständnis des sparsamen Umgangs mit Material und der Einheit von Material, Konstruktion und Form ist zeitlos und gilt es heute, mit neuen digitalen Technologien in die Zukunft zu führen.
