Abstract: There has been recently important efforts devoted to the amplification of subpicosecond pulses, with laser pumped dye amplifier, in view of numerous applications in the domain of time-resolved spectroscopy. But still, little has been done for the theoretical understanding of such experiments. We develop here a theoretical model of laser pumped dye amplifiers to be compared to experimental arrangements which amplify subpicosecond pulses to gigawatt peak power [1,2].
