Inherent in this commentary is the perception that Australia’s international profile is suffering from a lack of a “world class” magazine, something like Artforum or Frieze, one that might position Australian contemporary art in a more “positive light” in the Northern Hemisphere- controlled international art domain. This debate further proposed that the current stable of Australian art magazines is either parochial or dated, lacking “exciting debate” about art and artists.
