Title: Coherent noise filtering using a 2‐D Gabor transform
Abstract: Conventional f-k techniques fail to separate coherent noise, such as ground roll and head waves, from reflection data because of two principal reasons: the events are not plane waves and they are localized in time and offset. To overcome these problems, we introduce an approach using a localized f-k transform, a 2-D Gabor transform. The 2-D Gabor transform maps 2-D data to a four dimensional space where at a window centered at to) a f-k filter can be designed according to the localized characteristics. The proposed approach is tested on a real shot record with strong ground roll and head waves.
