Among numerical techniques, the finite element method is discussed at length, focusing on its applications to bone biomechanics. The main steps involved in the method are analyzed from the practical perspective, and guidelines about dealing with commonly recurring problems are provided. As for experimental methods, considerable space is devoted to full-field techniques, with special attention to the lesser-known method of thermoelastic stress analysis. The main aim of this chapter is to illustrate how numerical and experimental methodologies can complement each other, explaining why it is beneficial to pursue both approaches.
