Title: Empirical analysis of food consumption in urban Shanghai.
Abstract: In recent years, the increasing of price along with the income level caused a constant price increase in meat, food, and vegetables, thus there was a certain impact on the lives of low-income residencies. The paper analyzed the data of food consumption of residencies in Shanghai from 1995-2007 using the methods of Engel's coefficient, the income elasticity of demand, and the ELES Model. The results showed that most families in Shanghai could settle up the basic needs of food consumption, and kept the traditional consumption habits of food structure.Along with income increasing, there was still some potential for the consumption demand of the residencies. The positive methods to guide and expand the consumption should be selected.
