The ...The sound-localization capability of owls can be analyzed at many different levels of investigation, from observations in the natural environment to controlled studies in the sound-proof chamber. The virtues of the approaches at the different levels are reviewed in this paper with an emphasis on laboratory studies. The most widely utilized sound-localization behavior measured in the laboratory are movements of the head toward a sound source.
