Title: ON THE LOCALIZABILITY OF MASSLESS PARTICLES
Abstract: This chapter presents a notion of localizability that deals with states localized in space at a given time. This means that there does not exist a transitive system of imprimitivity for the restriction on the three-dimensional Euclidean group E(3) of the massless, discrete spin UIR US0 of the Poincare group based on IR. The chapter further discusses how an operator appears by using the formal association between a massless and a nonrelativistic particle. In a two-dimensional space-like plane transversal to its propagation direction, a massless particle behaves like a nonrelativistic particle of variable mass. A two-component “Galilean” position operator can be associated to a massless particle.
