Title: An Annotated Bibliography of Journal Articles Related to Music in the Community-Junior College.
Abstract: The journal articles included in this bibliography of materials on music instruction in two-year colleges were identified in Current Index to Journals in Education, Education Index, Music Educators Journal: Cumulative Index 1914-1987, and Music Index. Nearly 90% of the articles discovered were available for review through the library holdings of Michigan State University. Each of the 55 citations, listed alphabetically by the author's last name, features the author's name, title of the article, title and volume of the journal, date of the journal, page citations, and a brief abstract of the article. Topics include the role of the community college in music appreciation, the place of music courses in a community college, challenges faced by community colleges in teaching music, the recruiting and organizing of a marching band, music history and appreciation courses, the importance of expanding the junior college music curriculum, the role of the community college in training musicians, the dilemma of funding fine arts education in the face of financial difficulties, profiles of the types of students served by community college music programs, music courses as terminal courses, and suggestions for designing music
