Title: Reduction of nitrogen oxide (NO sub x ) emissions from coal-fired boilers using advanced wall- and tangentially-fired combustion techniques
Abstract: This paper discusses the technical progress of two U.S. Department of Energy Innovative Clean Coal Technology Projects demonstrating advanced combustion techniques for the reduction of nitrogen oxide (NO{sub x}) emissions from coal-fired boilers. The primary objective of these demonstrations is to determine the performance of different low NO{sub x} combustion technologies applied in a stepwise fashion to a 500 MW wall-fired boiler and a 180 MW tangentially-fired (T-fired) boiler. a target of achieving fifty percent NO{sub x} reductions has been published for each project. NOx emissions results for those discussed. The effects of operating with the low NOx combustion systems are also presented.
