Title: Reducing the rate of global warming: the States' role

Unless this warming trend is halted, or radically slowed, it will produce a host of profound and irreversible ecological disturbances in the coming decades. This report discusses the following: why we have a warming trend; what is likely to happen as a result of global warming; greenhouse gases - carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, methane, nitrous oxide, tropospheric ozone; what US states can do in the areas of electricity, energy efficient transportation, and reforestation. Data for each American state are presented in table form relating to carbon emissions from electricity generation, transportation and combustion of fossil fuels (1966, 1976, 1986). Other tables give data on levels of tropospheric ozone in each state; CFC policies and landfill gas recovery projects; state/utility joint energy efficiency projects; state energy tax credits; 1988 air pollution control budgets/oil overcharge funds; average miles per gallon for each state; and state reforestation programs.Read More
