Title: Defeminization of the Labor Market in the Liberalized Period: A Study of Recent Changes in Employment Structure in India
Abstract: The paper dwells into the changes in employment structure of women workforce in India in recent period. It also examines whether there has been any qualitative change in women employment in rural India in the liberalization period. The Indian economy has undergone rapid structural transformation with respect to output and employment generation in recent time. However, there has not been much occupational diversification in women’s employment in rural area, but in contrast to this there has been relatively higher structural change in women employment in urban area. Agriculture and the informal sector remain the main source of livelihood of women in India. The significance of the study is that it looks into the specific disadvantages faced by women in labor market.
